Theme: The theme for this year’s conference is: “Embracing Diversity – Working as One” This theme was chosen as a result of the Future Panel Discussion held at last year’s conference and comments by some members that they would like to encourage different cultural and ethnic groups to be part of the Association. But diversity can also mean people that have different opinions and perspectives, socio-economic backgrounds, religions and languages, or come from a different generation. The beauty of such diversity is that a variety perspectives can inspire creativity and drive innovation and allows our branches to offer a broader and more adaptable range of services. But best of all, it gives greater opportunity for growth in personal relationships and friendships. The question to ask now is: “How can our Branch encourage membership from different sections of our local community?” and “How do we appeal to these differences in our activities and events?”
Decorated Shoe Competition: Speaking of diversity, the Promotions Working Group has developed a fun competition for State Conference. Choose one shoe from your range of shoes (can be casual, formal, high or low heeled, boots or sandals) and use your imagination to decorate the shoe in a theme of your choice. It can be sophisticated, comical or fantasy!! Let your creative juices flow!
Selective Shoe Day Wear: To continue this fun theme throughout the conference, the Promotions Working Group would like to encourage all members to participate in wearing different shoes on different days. The following has been approved: Day 1: Low or High Heels: Day 2: Dress Boots (No Ugg Boots please!); Day 3: Flats. Members are not obliged to take part but if you do, it will help to bring everyone together in the spirit of fun and friendship!
