COVID-19 News Bulletin 25/3/20

To all Members from the State President
On behalf of the Board Members and State Office Staff, please know that our thoughts and prayers are with everyone at this difficult time.  Please take good care of yourselves and your families.  Remember, CWA Members have experienced the Great Depression, Word War II, Korean War, Vietnam War, Gulf War as well as the Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts.  All I can say is “What Else Have You Got!”

We are CWA and we know how to care for each other.  The “Hand of Friendship” offered by our organisation has never been more important.  Stay in touch with family, friends and neighbours by phone and / or computers.  Keep our branches alive with communication of ideas, whether it is “who can make the best sponge” (swap photos by mobile phone) send recipes or patterns or just phone each other to say “Hello. How are you?”  Don’t forget that I am on-line again this Friday between 10.00am to 11.00am for another Zoom chat – see the end of the newsletter for more details.  All members are very welcome to join in.

Now is the time to plan an event for your re-opening and share your ideas with the rest of the membership.  You can do it! We can do it!

Further COVID-19 Restrictions
Members and branches should note that all non-essential gatherings have now been banned by the Government as of midnight on 25 March 2020. As such, no branch meetings or events can continue until the ban is lifted, and CWA Centres must be closed.

There are a couple of exceptions.  If your CWA Centre is being used for essential services such as hosting essential voluntary or public services such as food banks or homeless services, domestic & family violence or drug & alcohol support groups, they can continue as they are part of the health portfolio and considered essential.

The CWA of WA State President and Board understand these are difficult times for us all. We encourage you to reach out to support each other via whatever means you have at your disposal, be it phone calls, emails, texts, or video chat.

Are you and your branch connected?
Now is more important then ever to update your branch and personal email address so that you can receive our regular Mailchimp notices and updates.  Please email to be added to the subscriber list.  Events are unfolding very quickly and it is not feasible to use the mail service for the amount of frequent information that needs to be distributed to members.  If members of your branch do not have email or computer access, please ensure that someone in your branch contacts them with the news from State Office.  It is also an opportunity to check on them and make sure that they are OK.

Your Board is staying connected
During this public health crisis, the CWA of WA Board is participating regularly in Zoom Videoconferencing meetings to stay on top of important issues to safeguard the Association during these unprecedented times.   A number of test runs have been conducted to sort out any technical problems and yesterday, the full Board ‘met’ on-line to discuss a couple of urgent matters.  The next Board meeting is scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, 6 and 7 April, 2020.

State Conference Postponement
The Board has agreed to the postponement of the 96th State Conference and Annual General Meeting until mid-November 2020.  The State Office will be negotiating new dates with the Novotel Perth Langley, which has already advised that they are willing to work with us to reschedule.  Members will be advised as soon as we have confirmed dates.

State Conference Accommodation
If you have already booked accommodation, the Novotel Perth Langley and Ambassador Hotel will honour the bookings and either allow you to move them to the new conference dates or provide a voucher for future use.  With great sadness, Regal Apartments can no longer keep trading due to the economic downturn and will permanently close on 31 March.

Electronic Payments Please
Lisa Aden in the Accounts Department reminds everyone that where possible, payments should be made by electronic bank transfer.

On-Line Food Safety Course
Just a reminder that if you have some spare time while at home, you may like to do the on-line Food Safety Course for CWA Members.  Click on this link for further information:
